Eliminating federal student loan interest

I recently met with the Undergraduates of Canadian Research Intensive Universities. They represent over 250,000 students from U15 universities that annually conduct $8.5 billion of research and contribute more than $36 billion to our economy.

Like most students I meet with in Spadina-Fort York, there is a shared concern: crippling student debt. The average lifetime interest on a Canada Student Loan is $3,000. Due to the pandemic, the government waived the interest for two years. More must be done.

I call on the government to permanently eliminate interest on Canada Student Loans and Canada Apprentice Loans.

See my question to the government to ask when they will fulfill this election promise:

MP Kevin Vuong calls for government to permanently eliminate student loans interest

I recently met with UCRU who represents over 250,000 students. Like most students I meet with in my riding of #SpadinaFortYork, there is a share concern that burdens our country’s best and brightest: crippling student debt. I rose in the House of Commons to ask the government *when* they will permanently eliminate interest on Canada Student Loans and Canada Apprentice Loans, which will save student borrowers an average of at least $3,000 in interest over the lifetime of their loan. #spafy #studentdebt #federalstudentloans #canadastudentloans #pse #postsecondary #education #university #college #apprenticeship
